Cinematic experience of the sensuous body
Riga Pasaules Film Festival 2020 programme comes with a new cycle of film screenings, workshops, a retrospective, and discussions. The film festival will take place from the 17th - 20th September 2020 at Kino Bize, located in the heart of Riga’s Art Nouveau district.
RPFF 2020 focuses on cinema works, of a broad anthropological persuasion, that engage with the cinematic experience of the sensuous body. The films of the festival program Filming Bodies : Bodies Filming will, through their content or form, address the ways in which the filmmaker’s body is integral to the process of filmmaking, that offer a creative engagement with the politics of the body, and that address the viewers’ corporeal capabilities.
The festival program will include also a film retrospective of innovatory Dutch filmmaker Leonard Retel Helmrich who developed a distinctive single shot physical method of moving with camera. Inspired by the films and pedagogy of Helmrich, filmmakers Marta Kucza and Daniel Allen will curate a workshop “Moving Camera” to practice embodied camera movements. The workshop will take place on September 12-16.
